OK, so I might be a bit biased, especially since it is the conference I created, but if you are thinking of attending one brand marketing conference or marketing symposium this year you definitely have to check out Brand ManageCamp.
First, the creation story (something you'll learn a lot more about from speaker Pat Hanlon, author of "Primal Branding"). I come from the world of consumer packaged goods marketing - having worked for Campbell Soup, Coca-Cola and Nabisco in various brand management roles. As a lifelong learner and a lover of all things brand, I would make sure I went to at least 1 or 2 conferences each year. The goal was to keep on top of new tools and techniques, get new ideas for my brands, meet interesting people with similar interests and just generally learn how to become a better marketer.
Each time, however, I found myself on the phone with my travel agent trying to get an earlier flight home. The speakers were trying to sell me stuff. The ones who weren't were key marketing folks in other organizations who weren't exactly chomping at the bit to give away their trade secrets. There were A/V problems (what? nobody brought an adapter for a Mac?), the food was bad (I came all the way to New Orleans for deli sandwiches?), the topics were narrow and repetitive and, overall, I felt kinda cheated.
On the way back from one such conference in 2003, I started writing down all the things the next conference I was going to attend had to have:
- broad range of topics
- breadth and depth
- all keynote-quality speakers
- NOT a boondoggle
- actionable insights
- no sales pitches
Well, when I got back home and started searching, I couldn't find any that fit the bill. So, with some daring and prodding from my wife, I set out to see if it could be done. And here we are, over 5 years later and getting ready to execute our 6th Brand ManageCamp!
As you might have guessed, this conference was designed to deliver on all of the above points, and more. We are really pleased with what we have put together, and based on the testimonials we receive, so are our attendees.
Our theme the last couple of years has been "Fresh Thinking Starts Here," and that is really what Brand ManageCamp is all about. Two days to be inspired, educated and energized by some of the best and brightest minds in brand. If you are looking to take your brands to the next level, this is a great place to start. Check out the list of agenda and see for yourself. And did I mention it is in Las Vegas this year! :)
